With four days off of the job for the Fourth of July Holiday we decided to fly out to sunny Cal. for the weekend. Make that sunny with some solid morning haze cal, but the weather was still was great. The ocean breeze was nice and cool at night compared to the heat wave Denver had been experiencing. Doug's hookup for us was sweet. He has some friends who live right on Pacific Coast Highway facing the beach, just north of Hungtington Pier. Along with our posse of three a visiting group from Arizona numbering six or seven also filled the household. Having nine houseguests for over half a week could tend to wear on the nerves. Our hosts were completely cool and showed us the best hospitality including usage of wetsuits and surfboards, pot after pot of tasty coffee in the morning, directions, suggestions, cool videos to watch, and all that other good stuff. All this was especially nice considering my first night there I was so tired from flying and trying to surf that I spilled not one but two beers on their carpet, the second one dropping out of my hand in the middle of the room like my pencil used to drop out of my hand as I fell asleep in class. Nothing like establishing a good first impression. Special thanks to Mark, Mario, John, Brett, and their friends. Living that beach lifestyle was rad, these guys really have their shit together.
